Layout

43 lines, ruled, chapters and running titles in alternating red and blue ink. Brown ink.

Decoration

9 very large illuminated initials [ff. 5r, 98v, 108v, 110v, 147r, 410r, 420r, 426v, 427v] 52 large illuminated initials.

One penwork initial in red and blue ink.

Binding

Pink stained leather (sheep?) over wooden boards, sewn onto 3 supports.

Provenance and Acquisition

From the Cathedral Priory of St Cuthbert, Durham; see MLGB3: 'liber sancti Cuthberti de Dunelmia' fol. 5r, 1st leaf of text s.xv. Partly erased inscription on fol. 1r: "liber Thome Howlande monachi Sancti Cuthberti Dunelm ..."

Eight cautiones, dated 1481. 1467, 1455, 1471, 1464, 1459, 1463. The book lay in the Winton, 'donkan' and 'Gilford' chests. In 1463 R. Ebchester (prior of Durham College) redeemed it.

Manuscript inscription on verso of final free front flyleaf: "Liber Aulae Regiae et Coll: de Brasenose ex dono John Daniel Armig."
