Decoration

2-line initials in red ink, capitals touched with red, some calligraphic headings with decorative extensions in red.

Binding

15th century deer over wooden boards, ties pegged into boards, pinkish colour remains.

History

Origin: second half of 15th century ; England

Provenance and Acquisition

From the Benedictine priory of St Neot.

Manuscript inscription on inside of upper board: Thomas Marchall his booke of Charlbury in the […?]. Further repetition of his name on first free endpaper (16th century).

Later inscription on same leaf "Liber Aulae Regiae & Collegij de Brasen-nose". Beneath: "DD Henricus Allen A.M. de Charlbury in Com. Oxon. Ao. D[omi]ni 1698." Possibly Henry Allen who matriculated BNC 1672? Manuscript inscription of Robert Brookes on verso of leaf 7. College bookplate.
