Binding

16th century, Italian (as MS., 1538?, Venice): wood boards; dark red leather with blind and gilt lines, small gilt stamps, and centrepieces formed by two interlocking gilt squares (nothing within); traces of four clasps, all fittings lost; plain original spine, later repaired at the Bodleian with fabric down inner joints. 447–54 × 307–8 × c. 16–22 mm. (book closed). Cf. MS. Canon. Ital. 142 (smaller format).
