Provenance and Acquisition

Chicksands, Bedfordshire, Gilbertine priory of St Mary the Virgin: "⟨Liber sanctimo⟩nialium de Chickesand" (fol. 219r, s. xiii). Langbaine testifies that in 1655 the MS. had a binding of red leather with brass bosses, the middle boss on each side bearing the letters 'LIBER SCE MARIE DE CHICHS.' (MLGB3: evidence from an ex-libris inscription or note of gift to an institution).

Presented by Robert Barker, the King's Printer, in 1604.
