The text is badly destroyed at the end; has been faded quite significantly, with various substitutions over the original (see e.g. fols 14 onwards)

Written in 2 columns, 39 lines in each column for the main part; fols 1–12v, 189–228, 35 lines.

Decoration

Titles, preceding each sermon on parchment parts (from the initial codex) in red ink in Alexandrinische Auszeichnungsmajuskel. Decorated head-pieces.

fol.1r (bottom): παρὰ μὲν τοῦ μακαρίου θεοφυλάκτου βουλγαρίας τῆς ἐξηγήσεως ὁ πρῶτος τόμος/ τοῦ θείου Χρυσοστόμου περιέχει ἕως τὸ ιε´κ(εφάλαιον) κ(αὶ) οὗτος ἄρχεται μὲν ἀπὸ τοῦ κδ´κεφ(αλαίου), ἐνἐα κεφαλ …λ ἔστιν ἀπὸ τῶν ις´ (hand 1)/ ταγγερον(?) εἰς τὸ κατὰ ματθαῖον λόγον νε´

Ὅρα ὅττι ἐν τῷ πρῶτῳ μὲν τὸ μικρῷ ἐστὶν λόγος τοῦ Χρυσοστόμου ἕως τοῦ θ´ κεφαλαίου· τοῦ κατὰ ματθαῖ⟨ον⟩ / καὶ ἕως τοῦ ιγ´κεφαλαίου ἐκεῖθεν / ἔσ⟨τι πως καὶ ἀρκτέον (?) […(hand 2?) the foot of fol. 1 is torn away.

Binding

Typical Holkham binding of brown leather, with Coke family ostrich crest in gilt in the centre of the upper cover; Date: early nineteenth century. Rebound by John Jones of Liverpool (worked for Holkham 1816–1823). The spine lettered in gilt: S. CHRYSOSTOMI/ HOMILIÆ/ IN/ EVANGELIUM/ MATTHÆI/ GR.–M.S./ SÆC. X./ in pasted black leather: MS. /HOLKHAM/ Gr. /38.
