History

Origin: 1380 × 1394 (c. 1380–1 (?)) ; Flemish

Provenance and Acquisition

Arms including England, Bohemia, and the Emperors of the Romans point to the book's having been made for Anne of Bohemia, wife of Richard II. She is shown uncrowned on fol. 118, perhaps indicating that the book was made before her marriage in January 1382. After marriage negotiations began in 1380 the marriage treaty was concluded in Flanders and Anne stayed in Bruges for some time before reaching England twoards the end of 1381. The outside dates are 1380 and 1394, the year of Anne's death.

Bought at the William Brice sale, 26 July 1887, lot. 133, for £31 10s.
