History
Provenance and Acquisition
Cistercian Abbey of the Virgin Mary, Eberbach. Although all three parts of the manuscript were written at Lorsch, the evidence of catalogues suggests that they were bound together at Eberbach. The 1470s Rheinischen Gesamtkatalog lists the book under the signature ‘Erb’ Ma. O 2’ (Palmer, Zisterzienser und ihre Bücher, p. 228). Inscription, ‘Liber sancte Marie virginis in Ebirbach’, 15th century (cf. MS. Laud. Misc. 107, fol. 1v). Listed in the Eberbach catalog of 1502 under the signature G 15: ‘G 15 Quedam epistoli beati augustini Item epistoli eiusdem super psalmos Initium ‘Domino sancto iuremerito ac venerabili’’ (Palmer, p. 239).
Willam Laud (1573–1645) acquired many German manuscripts plundered during the Thirty Years’ War. Inscribed, ‘Liber Guil.mi Laude archiepi. Cant. et Cancellarii vniuersit. Oxon. 1636’ (fol. 1r).
Donated to the Bodleian Library as part of Laud’s third donation, 28 June 1639. Previous shelfmarks, ‘L.25’ (on fol. ii verso) and ‘C.97 Laud.’ (upper flyleaf).
