Origin: 9th century, second quarter ; Germany, Niederaltaich, Benedictine abbey (?)

Provenance and Acquisition

The manuscript consists of two separate but similar parts, which came together very early on: on palaeographical evidence both written by pre-Würzburg hands belonging to the Gozbald group, possibly in Niederaltaich Abbey, s. ix2/4. Part II in the hand of Egino: subscription, f. 15v.

Given to the Bodleian as part of his third donation, dispatched on 28 June 1639.

Decoration

Fine and good initials. (Pächt and Alexander i. 14, pl. II). On fol. 15v a ten-line initial A, fol. 48v a six-line initial N; fols. 15v, 16r, 48r coloured capitals; explicit and incipit inbetween three coloured bands; quire signatures inscribed in a large circles.
