History

Provenance and Acquisition

William Laud, 1573–1645: The present book consists of three fascicles, or rather booklets, A–C, which were possibly consolidated only in the course of the Laudian Binding, in the late 1630s. Ex-libris inscription of Archbp. Laud, dated 1638, at the lower half of fol. 1r.

Given to the Bodleian as part of his third donation, dispatched on 28 June 1639.

Origin: Late 13th/Early 14th century; Germany . Originally part of a larger volume, see above, item 2.

Provenance

The inscription at the bottom margin of fol. 9v, which was inserted in the 14th century (after 1331), indicates that fascicle A was meant to be lent for life to Iohannes, cellarer at St James, and after his death, to Iohannes de Pingus, at the Charterhouse in Koblenz (Beatusberg): ‘domino Iohanni cellerario sancti Iacobi detur ad tempora vite sue post mortem suam detur domino Iohanni de Pingus cartusiensis in confluenciam.’ The Charterhouse at Koblenz (= Confluentia) existed since 1331.
