Collation

i and ii 8 | iii 10 | iv and v 8 | vi 6+1. Binding error: fol. 47 inserted at end of last quire (with script upside-down), instead of verso following fol. 42v at beginning of last quire.

Layout

Ruling in ink, one column of 33 lines. Ruled space c.130–34 × 90–93 mm.

Hand(s)

German textualis, s. xiv2/4, by a single hand. (Item 5) Bastarda, s. xv, in a Carthusian hand from Mainz. (Items 2 and 4) Hands of s. xivex and s. xv from the Mainz Charterhouse added titles.

Origin: 14th century, second quarter; Germany, possibly at the Mainz Charterhouse

Provenance and Acquisition

Mainz, Carthusian abbey of St Michael: the 15th-cent. ex-libris inscriptions at the upper right- hand margin of fol. 1r: ‘fratrum Cartusiensium Maguncie’ and, in a different hand, at the upper margin of fol. 46v: ‘Codex Carthusiensium moguncie’.

William Laud, 1573–1645: Ex-libris inscription, dated 1638, at the lower margin of fol. ii verso.

Given to the Bodleian as part of his third donation, dispatched on 28 June 1639.
