Provenance and Acquisition

Hyde (Hida, FORMERLY NEW MINSTER, WINCHESTER), Hampshire, Benedictine abbey of Holy Trinity, St Mary the Virgin, and St Peter: Fragment of kalendar of Hyde abbey in binding (s. xii ex.) contains first 17 days of August (Oswald in blue, Assumptio in blue, Inventio s. Stephani, Laurence red, Ethelwold black) and 16 days of July (2–17) (Swithun black, Grimbald red, Transl. s. Benedicti and Oct. of Peter and Paul blue, Sexburg, Hedda and K. black). Medieval binding: label on back with 'HVDA' and 'Opus domini Roberti lincolniensis Grosthedi' (s. xv), secured by a metal border fastened by 8 nails. Centre strap and clasp marks, also two other strap-attachment marks above and below the centre of first board. Chain attachement top of first cover in centre.
