Provenance and Acquisition
Benedictine abbey of St. Médard at Soissons: fol. 1v, late 9th century (Bischoff) or 10th century (?) (Barker-Benfield): 'Hunc librum Teutbertus leuita dominis suis sancto Medardo et Sebastiano obtulit' (repeated, fol. 1, 11th century (?) (Barker-Benfield)). 'Teudbertus de ethimologiis quarundam parcium' appears on fol. 1, 12th century (Barker-Benfield), repeated with the variant Theudbertus on the outer front cover.
Abbey of St. Aldhelm at Malmesbury: 'Hunc quicunque librum Aldelmo depresseris [sic for deprenseris] almo | Dampnatus semper maneas cum sorte malorum' (fol. 1, 10th century, second half (Bischoff) or late 10th/early 11th century (Barker-Benfield)).
St. Augustine's, Canterbury: 'Di(stinctio) xi. Gra(dus) i. ret (rors) (?)us, liber sancti Augustini Cantuariensis' (fol. 1r, late 13th or early 14th century (Barker-Benfield)).
Thomas Marshall: the autograph 'Tho. Mareschallus' appears twice on fol. 1.
Bequeathed by him and received in 1689 or 1690.
