Gospels

The greater part of the Four Gospels, written in sloping uncials: the text of the volume contains Matt. vi. 16-29, vii. 20-viii. 27, xii. 18-xiv. 15, xx. 25-xxi. 19, xxii. 25-xxiii. 13: Mark i. 1-iii. 34, vi. 21-end: Luke: John vi. 14-viii. 3, xv. 24-xix. 6. Much of the remainder is now at St. Petersburg [National Library of Russia, Ф. № 906 / Gr. 33], and the two MSS. together are called Γ of the Gospels, the Oxford part being also called codex Tischendorfianus IV. There are tables of chapters, Ammonian sections and Eusebian canons. Some of the leaves are damaged and inlaid. The colophon attached to St. John's Gospel (at St. Petersburg) states that it was written on Thursday, Nov. 27, the indiction being 8: this is interpreted by Gardthausen (Griech. Paläogr., 1879, p. 404) to be A.D. 844, 889, 934 or 979, and he prefers the latest date. A facsimile of fol. 61r is in the Palaeographical Society's 2nd series, pl. 7.
