A register of the property of the church and parish of St. Michael at South Elmham in Suffolk, situate in or near the township of South Elmham; and also of all who paid tithes to the church (fol. 70), and of the houses which contributed in a cycle of seventeen years to the office of collector of the parish (fol. 84). At fol. 88 follow rentals of the neighbourhood, some personal. Incidentally some charters of Rombergh or Rumburgh, a Benedictine cell (fol. 35, cf. 132v) are included, and extracts from Court Rolls (in the case of copyhold tenants, fol. 70): and all is connected ultimately with the abbey of St. Mary at York. An alphabetical index of places ('Quotacio extenti ') follows at fol. 130.

Mostly written by John Ledel, monk of St. Mary's York, in the year 1500 (see foll. 3, 4v, 83v, 132), who adds notes of various kinds.
Binding
Brown leather on boards with stamped ornament, with metal clasp fittings, but clasp lost, evidently English binding of very early in the 16th cent.

Provenance and Acquisition
Church of St. Michael, South Elmham: 'Liber pertinens Ecclesie Sancti Michaelis in Southelmham.'
North family, Barons North and Earls of Guildford , 17th-19th centuries. This volume probably came into the hands of Edward North, esq., with the manor of South Elmham, in Dec. 1540.
