Provenance and Acquisition

Axholme, Lincolnshire, Charterhouse of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary: 'D. Joh' Chamberlayne' (fol. 106r); John Chamberlain was a monk at Axholme at the surrender, 1538, and was also apparently at Hinton charterhouse at the surrender, 1539. (MLGB3: evidence from an inscription of ownership by an individual member of a religious house (which may not, however, be evidence for institutional ownership)).
